Abstract
This study attempted to find how group art psychotherapy, based on the Psychocybernetic model by Nucho(2003), affects anxiety and self-esteem for foreign workers in Korea. 19 foreign workers who were attending the center for multi-cultural families located in the Gyeonggi Province participated in the study. 10 of them were assigned to the Experimental Group(EG) and 9 of them were assigned to the Control Group(CG). EG was provided with 12 weeks of group art psychotherapy based on the Psychocybernetic model once a week. CG was not provided with any interventions. EG and CG were both evaluated by the State-Trait Anxiety scale form Y(STAI-Y) and the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale(RSES) before and after the group art psychotherapy intervention. The results indicated that EG showed a significant reduction in State anxiety(STAI-1) scores, and a significant increase in Self-esteem scores. However, there was no significant change in Trait anxiety(STAI-2) scores. CG showed no meaningful change in State anxiety, Trait anxiety, and Self-esteem scores. The study conducted systematized art psychotherapy program based on psychocybernetic model of art therapy. Also, the study focused on psychological issues of foreign workers which had few research attention and provided the practical intervention to them. Furthermore, the study discussed the meaning of systematized art psychotherapy in art therapy research and practice.
